The Federal Ministry of the Interior recognises the danger that US President Trump could end the Data Privacy Agreement between the EU and the USA. This would make the use of US cloud services impossible in one fell swoop. ‘Legally secure transatlantic data traffic is of great importance for the German economy,’ said a spokesperson for the ministry.
The Federation of German Industries (BDI) has also warned of the consequences of a possible cancellation of the agreement. Iris Plöger from the BDI told newspaper Handelsblatt that this ‘would have devastating consequences for companies and public authorities and would lead to great additional workload and legal uncertainty’.
